Crossing the bridge from childhood to adulthood has never been so daunting. The time of adolescence is longer than ever and yet society today offers little support in understanding or facilitating this transition.

Created by world-renowned developmental psychologist Dr. Gordon Neufeld and taught by one of his most trusted students, this course is designed to be used by parents, grandparents, teachers, administrators, professionals- anyone who desires to make sense of adolescence.

The course will help shed light into this often dark and confusing time. It will provide both the tools and the insight to see an adolescent through the journey, and articulate why now more than ever adolescents need our help to cross that bridge. Some of the topics we'll cover include:

• Dealing with the loss of parental influence and power
• When rebellion is healthy and when it spells trouble
• Recognizing when peers are helping or getting in the way
• How to preserve or restore one's power to parent
• When to hold on and when to let go

Course creator Dr. Gordon Neufeld is a Vancouver-based developmental and clinical psychologist and is well known for his ability to make sense of children. For over 35 years he has shown parents and professionals how to use this insight to open doors of change. His bestselling book, "Hold On to Your Kids" has been praised as a groundbreaking work.

This course is sponsored by Transformative Parenting, a Mill Valley-based Parent Consulting and Education practice, and led by Co-Director Todd Sarner, MA. Todd has worked for several years with children, adolescents, and adults- including as a mentor and counselor to at-risk teens.

Todd was chosen by Dr. Neufeld to be one of the first participants in his professional training program and is one of only two Neufeld-certified Presenters and Practitioners in the US. He currently serves on the faculty of the Neufeld Institute where he is also the Director of Online Learning. 

In this 7-week course, we will spend one-hour each week watching an engaging DVD presentation of Dr. Neufeld followed by one-hour of facilitated discussion. The tuition fee includes all materials.
